I still wonder if they could have made it thinner... Seems that Apple does not really want to change the iMac and Macbook Pro physical dimensions.

    #1 - Culture
#2 - Relative wealth of country and self-reliance of citizens as a whole (however, they are WAY in debt, worse even than the U.S.)
#3 - They just experienced a catastrophe so horrific, it's brining the people together, not apart. Similar to how 9/11 did in America.
#4 - Disaster zone is in very specific areas, and everything in those areas is essentially completely destroyed. Several blocks away, things are relatively untouched.

One thing you have to know is that IT people that work in schools are most likely political appointees, they know nothing and are worth nothing.

Make sure you get your laptop back.

Appointee...??? What are you talking about, it's not a position of office!!

Fact is in most places they probably get paid more than the teachers!

    What about:
MacBooks made of carbon fiber (replacing white plastic).
    MacBook Pros made of Liquidmetal.

IMO it would be the other way around...Carbon Fiber is a "Pro" a material as you get.

That's true, but my dad had an old broken laptop with a magnesium frame. Just for fun he decided to try to light it on fire. I didn't think it would work, because I assumed the frame was probably some alloy including magnesium and besides magnesium doesn't burn easily unless it's in small pieces. Well, it took him a fair bit of effort with a propane torch, but he did succeed in lighting it and it burned VERY brightly, just like a firework.
    Yes, magnesium is definitely sweeeeeeeeeeet!

OK, I'll be the first one to confess that I believed this rumor. It just seems that a fall release date makes more sense for a product like this, both because people are going back to school and, especially, the holiday season. My guess is the fact that new releases of the iPad are coming out a few months into the new year might be a damper on holiday sales of the iPad.

So yes, I could see Apple trying somehow to get the iPad onto an early fall release schedule.

There are currently 5 million ipad 3's in Apple's warehouse.
Retina display, 3D, 128GB, white and yes Verizon will have it too.

They are holding these back to make sure people will stand in line again and to get some much needed press releases for the holiday season.

Nobody is talking about Apple any more. They are going downhill fast with their closed architecture.

Who would have thought that the Xoom could have had such an impact.

I don't have any proof, but just sayin' .............

it you look at the patent image, both the keyboard area and trackpad area are swappable, so you can type and , for instance, play the piano at the same time (like some kind of web 2.0 Phantom of the Opera) without an external kayboard, just an additional mouse.

Oooh.... dangerous territory. I wouldn't call engineer 'types' uncreative. Very unwise..

Yes FuzzMunky that was unwise of me and i stand appropriately corrected. There are so many creative engineers and in fact one might argue that enginnering itself is a creative act. I will not say that again -:o

This is an interesting ban. I don't personally like those veils, as they represent a cultural institutionalized form of discrimination and control over women (granted, it seems that some women wear them voluntarily for reasons unknown to me). However, nothing ever gets better if you start alienating these cultures this way.

I do see their point. If a man walked around with something that covered everything but their eyes, people would be suspicious.

EDIT: CalBoy said it better than me.

No longer supported means never patched or upgraded again no matter the reason.
A lot of people, like me, just think that Apple should support their devices about a year after they have last been sold. The iPhone 3G was sold in a lot of countries until August it received its last update in November merely three months after it was discontinued. Hey, the standard warranty everywhere is one year.
They had done so with the original iPhone (though one could argue that the large gap between the 2.2.1 release in January 2009 and the 3.0 release in June already meant that support ended in effect in January, and that no security fixes were offered for a six month period neither for the original iPhone or the iPhone 3G that was the flagship during these six months).

iTunes has been not part of iLife for some time, but "never say never." It was indeed one of the original iLife apps in the first several iterations and included up through iLife '05.

    http://www.amazon.com/Apple-M9779LL-A-iLife-Mac/dp/B0007GCZ46/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1286281717&sr=8-1

I stand corrected, it hasnt been a part of iLife since 05.

No, they want you to purchase Logic instead.

And it's far easier to drop HDs so your $1200 sw is DOA. It always depends on how you take care of your stuff. I have thousands of CDs/DVDs, and none of them is scratched; obviously I do not throw them around my desk either.

Of course, it always depend on how you take care of your stuff. By using your own words, the hard drive will last as long as the DVDs.

DVDs arent going to be the standard for 15 years as long as the packages are exploding in size every year, the move to blu-ray will help greatly of course but not until the market adopts it. People said the same thing about tapes 15 years ago and now most data centers are already moving toward hard drives instead of tapes. Eventually itll be cheaper to sell the package on the HDD than DVDs.

Theres no point to dragging this on, i didnt say that hard drives will be the standard, itll be offered as an alternative to the massive dvd sets.

    ˆhuh?

Anyhoo... all went very smooth today, despite the earlier issues. Got to the store just before opening (10AM) and was out the door in 20 minutes.

For those keeping count, the employee helping me did tell another customer that their store only received 20 phones. This was in Long Beach, CA.

Sorry to hear that some of us have to wait 'til the next shipment. The stories here can lead one to believe something diabolical, or irresponsible at least, could have been going on in some places. :(

BTW... half of the dozen or so people waiting outside with me, prior to opening, were there to see if there were any iPhones available for those who hadn't preordered. They were quickly turned away once inside.

I agree with KindredMAC's pricing. The Core Duo is more then enough. I know we'll find a way to complain about it. (Core 2 Duo, etc.)

The average joe isn't going to care other then it's "fast", it can game, and it's not expensive. Apple needs a GOOD all-in-one solution at $999.

Where are those holy souls who claimed that Android was finished when iPhone launched on Verizon. I still see a 7% growth for Android compared to a negligible 0.02% for iPhone. According to a survey, the Thunderbolt is selling more than the iPhone at most of Verizon stores nationwide. :D

I don't think the Verizon iPhone release will affect Android much, but these numbers hardly justify gloating. They only contain 2-3 weeks of Verizon iPhone sales out of the 3 months they are reporting.
